This article explains how to connect and add a printer by using the printer's IP address.

The steps in this article must be repeated for each desired printer connection. By performing a single install of PaperCut, all available printers on campus are added. PaperCut is a more secure way to print since a print job can be released while you are present at the printer. Printing via IP address, prints nearly immediately.

Your device should be connected to the school Wifi system before proceeding. You will also need to obtain the printer IP address from the screen of the printer or from the paper printed instructions next to the printer.

Mac

Go to System Settings, Printers & Scanners, click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax… button.

In the Add Printer window, click the globe/IP icon in the center.
Find the printer IP address either on the printer screen or on paper printed instructions next to the printer. Enter the IP address in the field. In the Name field, replace the IP address with the building name, floor number, and color or black & white depending upon the printers capabilities.
Click Add.

If another window appears to select 'Duplex Printing Unit", double-sided, check the box then click OK to complete the process for adding a printer to a Mac.

Windows

Go to Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Printers & scanners, Add a printer or scanner, click the Add device button. After a brief moment, the option to Add a new device manually should appear. Click Add a new device manually, then click the Add a printer using an IP address or hostname button and Next.

Find the printer IP address either on the printer screen or on paper printed instructions next to the printer.
Enter the IP address into the Hostname or IP address: field and press Next.

If the printer is on-line a successful connection should occur.

Click Finish to complete the process.
